Ambitious for NZ?
The government says it’s aiming for a
10-20% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2020. The
projected cost to each New Zealander is $30 per week, and
the target’s achievability is dependent on action from
emissions giants China and India . Kim is joined by Climate
Change Minister Nick Smith, whose mantra is “Promise less,
do more”. But has he promised too little to do
anything?

Greenpeace doesn’t think the government is being
Ambitious for NZ at all. Climate Campaigner Simon Boxer
tells Kim the $30 figure being waved about is simply
scaremongering, and that New Zealand is playing catch-up
with the rest of the world – and will continue to for
decades to come.
