The Wednesday Wire Hosted By Paul Deady

1220 - RWC bids - Ella Henry, Maori Broadcaster and Senior Lecturer at AUT

At the top of the show, around 1220, we'll get stuck into this whole Rugby World Cup TV bidding fiasco. Maori TV was widely tipped to win free-to-air rights, after its bid was bolstered by 3 million dollars from the Maori development fund TePuni Ko-kiri But no! Broadcasting minister Johnathan Coleman says his government felt Maori TV wouldn't be able to offer a decent service to ALL NewZealanders, so put up money to boost the new bid for a consortium lead by TVNZ. Shit, meet fan. Maori Affairs minister Pita Sharples says the government used inside knowledge of Maori TV's bid to give the consortium an edge. He says its grossly unfair, a sentiment echoed by Maori TV themselves who've called it an affront to Maori. They're now rallying money from corporates andiwi to bolster THEIR bid, and we find ourselves in the twilight zone, where the two state broadcasters compete against each other using taxpayer money. Awesome.

I'll be speaking to (above) about the issue - she reckons the Government should have foreseen that free to air broadcast rights could become a contentious issue, and says they're throwing away a major opportunity to encourage the uptake ofte reo Maori.

1240 - Intelligence Sharing with NZ - Prof. Robert Patman

At 1240, I'll play an interview I did this morning with (above) from Otago University. We talked about a recent meeting our Foreign Affairs (and RWC) minister had with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Very chummy it was too! But why so chummy? And what was this about the US and NZ resuming intelligence sharing? When did it even stop? A very interesting chat we had, tune in at 1240...

1300 - DPF, Kiwiblog - Crown Investigation into blogging/contempt of court.

At 1300, we talk to (above) with regards to movements the Crown Law Office are looking to undertake regarding the way stories are reported on theinternet. During the Clayton Weatherston case there were a number of instances on the internet where opinions generally stated he was guilty, with one Facebook group proclaiming boldly in their title "Clayton Weatherston is a murderer". Website Kiwiblog also had opinions posted about the former university tutor's guilt. Should there be tighter restriction with blogs over contempt of court and suppression order breaches

1320 - Counterclockwise

At 1320, Lyndon Hood from the Scoop team returns for another edition of Counterclockwise. It's been a tumultuous week in the news both here and abroad, and Lyndon will be here to discuss one of the many current topics of debate with his own intuitive nature.

1340 - Tuhoe raids art auction

Then at the end of the show, around 1340, I'm hoping to hear from Graham Jury, who's organised an art auction called Explosive Expression. The interesting this about this one, all the proceeds go towards helping out those accused in the so-called Tuhoe terror raids with legal funds. What's more, some of the art was created by those very same people. Waiting on confirmation for this one, I'll let you know...

Aucklanders can tune in at 95 on the FM dial.
