The Wednesday Wire Hosted By Paul Deady

1220 - "Vote With Your Feet" march benefactor Colin Craig

We begin the show at 1220 with the benefactor of this weekend's "Vote With Your Feet" anti-anti-smacking march, Colin Craig. He's stumped-up hundreds of thousands of dollars to try to mobilise people for what he hopes will be the biggest protest the country has ever seen. Colin says he was moved by principle - that is, John Key supposedly ignoring the 88% of people who voted in August ill-fated referendum. Nothing to do with smacking he says. I wonder how Family First managed to twist his arm then, considering they've been pretty well-funded by a conservative Christian church out of the States...

1240 - Defence Minsiter Dr. Wayne Mapp: What I Did In Afghanistan

Then, around 1240, I'll play an interview from this morning I did with (above). We talked about his support for General Stanley McCrystal, who leads US and NATO forces in Afghanistan, and his request for 40, 000 extra troops. Dr Mapp says this presents the most effective "exit strategy" from Afghanistan - nice to know he's already thinking about getting out.

1300 - Queen's Wharf Design Competition FAIL - Dr Dushko Bogunovich, Unitec associate professor of Architecture

At one, I'll be speaking to (above), who's written a really interesting piece on the Auckland Architecture Association's website (www.aaa.org.nz) about the design competition for Queen's Wharf. Dushko says the whole enterprise is way more about politics, money and egos than it is about good design, and there aren't ANY projects worthy of what he says is the hottest sight in the country.

1320 - Counterclockwise

Lyndon Hood joins us again for today's edition of counterclockwise, thanks to the team at scoop. We'll be tucking into a large portion of Bill English today! Looking at claims his promo appearance onTVNZ 7's "focus on the economy" ad is nothing more than a party political broadcast; and, in the wake of new projections from Statistics NZ which show the population of over 65s hitting one million by 2020, taking a look at the decision to defer super-fund payments for a decade.

1340 - Book She Read

And Sally's back again for a newly minted installment of Book She Read at 1340. Today, she'll take a gander a some news in the world of books - Stephen King getting into comics, Barnes and Noble getting in on theeBook reader game, war-criminals writing kids poetry, short story winners and all sorts of other stuff. We may even have a review for you today! Aresounding huzzah...

Aucklanders can tune in at 95 on the FM dial.
