Kiwis Have Their Say On Ultra Fast Broadband - 9

Why New Zealanders want an ultra-fast broadband network.

Every week, we will bring you a selection of comments from Vector’s fibre to the door website.

Here’s what Kiwi’s have had to say this week in support of Vector’s effort to bring fibre to the door of Aucklanders …..

It's time New Zealand begins to increase its level of technology to that of other western countries and catch up.

I do support it, if it would make children have quality education, and not only that it would be good and benefiting the children of tomorrow … if it was offered free or at least 50% discounted for schools and tertiary education. As fees are already costing parents an arm and a leg. Thank you

When I start looking after other peoples’ children in my own home next year I will have computer literacy as part of our early learning programme. Faster internet suits younger minds (and their shorter attention spans!!) and will make it easier for me to provide fun learning opportunities :)

It would be good to see New Zealand plan for the future (and now) & spend some money on this, rather than the standard 'kiwi catch-up'.
Katie

Obvious isn’t it? My internet speed is just ...slowwwww - with a broadband connection that allows the max speed on the line for upload and download - it’s just ...sllllllooooooowwwwww

I want it faster, bigger, better, more! We've had no phone or internet for two weeks, due to the ancient cable in our area packing a wobbly. Gee thanks. Bring on the fibre to the door woohoo - good on you Vector!!
MM
Mother

It seems that this technology would be best at serving the public for high speed internet.
JB

Because its 9pm and my broadband connection has slowed to practically dial up speed and I've been on hold for 15minutes with my service provider (I use the term loosely) to see if they can do anything. In my opinion, anything less than fibre to the door is waste of time, $$ and resources.

I'm sure a lot of kiwis may feel that being so isolated geographically already means that opportunities and developments existing in other developed nations are beyond our reach at this time despite having the internet as it is now. If fibre closes the gap a bit and makes us more of a global competitor, then why not? If anything it would even be a great morale boost.

Coming form overseas where cable internet has been a standard for a decade, I am still extremely annoyed at the slow and expensive service we get here in New Zealand. It can only get better.
Marlis

NZ has a sub par internet connection for business and home users; this is detrimental to a lot of businesses and puts NZ in a modern bronze age when it comes to technological change. If New Zealand wants to be a viable sphere for business opportunities it needs to get what it becoming the basic tool for business up to date, the Internet.

Increases productivity in the workplace, and also helps at home as entertainment is becoming inseparable with the internet

New Zealand is behind the world in internet speed. It will make us more efficient and help business's grow. I have no end of trouble with my existing connection and with rain our connection slows. This is due to multiple faults/joins in the existing copper network. This can all be improved for everyone with fiber to the door.
JB
Electrician

I use the internet daily, and the faster & larger the connection, the more I can get done simultaneously.
JT
Process Analyst

Yeah sure it's a good idea. Just as long as Tauranga gets a faster broadband as well.
Case

Because having experienced broadband overseas ours is pathetic in comparison and if fibre to the door means I can study via correspondence quicker without reduction in uploads or downloads I fully support it. We need to get with the times and be on a par with the world.
LS
Home Exec

We need faster internet for downloads uploads and to be competitive with the rest of the world. Whether it is for work or play the internet is an integral part of our everyday lives and we should be able to keep up. From email to videos and gaming to music we should all have the ability to enjoy the fastest growing information and communication network in the world.
CM

Because fast broadband is essential in today’s world, to be successful in today’s world you need to be competitive and fast broadband helps!
LM

I want fast internet for gaming and general internet use. Sick of not being able to play on servers any further away than Australia.
BA

Because I want to do more on the internet instead of waiting for a site to come up, it saves time and I get more done

It’s important for people to be in touch with each other and the outside world. Fast internet fibre to the door is good for everybody. Small to large businesses, housewives to heads of business.

I am frustrated with New Zealand’s slow connection speed; we need to be on par with the rest of the world.
KS

After living in Wellington with cable internet, the adsl internet in Auckland is very slow.
DDW

I’m sick of slow internet. New Zealand has such a poor internet speed. You could set up a hut in the middle of Africa and get faster broadband. I want to be able to watch streaming video (TVNZ etc) without having to pause and wait again and again! You have my support!
Josiah

It is time we all had better internet speed and service, from a personal and business perspective.
VO

Reliable, fast networking is critical to small businesses in our markets (FMCG and IT&T). Backhaul contention on ADSL (and the general state of copper in the ground) leaves a lot to be desired - bring it on!
MK

Internet is never fast enough. However please also think about the rural people, not just Auckland City
Juraja

The only sensible network investment for the future.
KG
Architect

I have always wanted fibre optic internet, would love a residential product for fast high capacity home use
MV

Because it is about time we got what everyone else already has. And we need to get faster internet in order to become a more competitive country. Not only that but we need to use this internet wisely like to get smarter energy grid meters or improve our education system.
Josephine

To help the development of new technologies
KG

New Zealand needs better infrastructure and this is one way that we can ensure we get it!
Louise
