1210 - Candor Trust on Police Pursuits
Over the weekend, another person was killed after crashing into a power poll at the end of a police chase. This brings the number of fatalities during police chases to 9 in the last few months. The latest death has renewed calls for an inquiry into police pursuits - leading the call is the CANDOR trust, who usually campaign against driving under the influence of drugs. They say far too many deaths are happening and officers need to stop chasing over trivial matters. But the police say drivers make the decision not to stop and any consequences lie with them. I’ll be talking to Rachel Ford from the Candor Trust at 12.10.
1225 - Bruce Barnard, ARTA RWC Planning
At 12.25 we’ll hear from (above) about the city’s transport system dry run for the Rugby World Cup over the weekend. By all accounts it was a pretty successful test too - people used public transport, the extra trains ferried thousands of happy supporters to and fro, and the road closures appeared to do their job. But half the stadium is still closed, and next year Eden Park will house more than double the number of fans than there were on Saturday night. Are we ready?
1235 - Media Rage
James Coe returns triumphant for another edition of media rage, a chance for bFM’s resident news bitch to bitch about the news. Today James tells me he’ll be giving his opinion on opinions. Sounds thoughtful...
1245 - Chris Fowlie
And then at 12.45 we’ll be talking about weed substitutes. The Associate Health minister Peter Dunne is concerned that shops - even dairies - are selling legal alternatives to marijuana which haven’t been tested for banned substances. Some versions have already been banned, but already other strains are on the market, and under current rules, the manufacturer doesn’t have to say what’s in them until someone makes a fuss. Chris Fowlie from the Hempstore will be on the line to give us the retail perspective to what Mr Dunne calls a back to front system.
