There was mention of fairies and pixies at the Prime Minister's press conference on Tuesday as Mr Key expressed doubt as to how Labour would fund its tax proposals.
He said that the proposal for a tax-free threshold would fall short by more than a billion dollar a year, which would have to be borrowed from overseas. He also argued against a new top tax rate, saying that it would lead to avoidance and that New Zealand need to retain high income earners. Mr Key said New Zealand did not want to lose high income earners. Among those who might be discouraged by the tax Phil Goff has proposed fon those earning "well into six figures", the Prime minster mentioned school principals.
Tomorrow Key will announce the Government's plans for savings and investment.
The Prime Minister had opened by expressing his condolences to the Russian people on the bombing in Moscow. Also discussed were potential changes to the minimum wage, maori represatation on Auckland council committees, hair dyeing among politicians and his ambivalence towards Auckland Grammar's implimentation of the Cambridge assessment system.
