Aloe Blacc Performs at San Francisco Bath House

In his soulful, lyrical manner, Aloe Blacc presented one simple rule for the evening. Nothing, nothing in the whole world, he said—not social class, not race, not personal histories—mattered for the next few hours. Instead, the fortunate audience packed body-to-body in the San Francisco Bath House on Thursday night was told only to focus on two simple concepts: “love and happiness.” These two things, Blacc explained, are the roots of soul music, a genre founded on the belief that a collective love for music has the ability to create transcendent happiness.

The aforementioned theory was quickly validated as Blacc delivered an incredible performance that included many songs from his 2010 album “Good Things,” as well as impressive Bob Marley, Michael Jackson, and Velvet Underground covers. While his hit “I Need a Dollar” appeared to be the most widely known track, probably due to its recent inclusion on the popular HBO series How to Make It in America, “Green Lights” stood out at his best song of the night.

Hopefully the LA native will soon find his way back to Wellington, as a growing base of fans anxiously awaits his return.
