  • Scoop Audio (20 Minutes): Audio on demand of Prime Minister John Key's press conference today. The first part of the press conference concerned the announcement of an extension Job Loss wage subsidy scheme in Canterbury (See.. Job Loss Cover extended for Christchurch individuals - Government extends employment support package for Chch - Earthquake Tax Relief Measures Announced - PM extends business, employment assistance for Christchurch). Neither the PM nor the Welfare Minister had any projections of how many more people could be expected to join the dole queue as a result of the phased end to the scheme.

The PM then moved on to discuss the creation of an Earthquake Recovery Agency which will be formally announced tomorrow by the PM in Christchurch. Most of the questioning concerned the expected non-appointment (as expected and widely reported) of Martyn Dunne to head the agency. (BusinessDesk's Pattrick Smellie has covered this in detail here: Politicians, officials duck for cover over quake czar job ). It has been rumoured that the reasons for the non-appointment are due to a clash between Dunne and Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee.

Finally the PM announced the beginning of a nationwide push against school bullying.
