Fatah and Hamas sign reconciliation deal – Al Jazeera

Fatah and Hamas sign reconciliation deal - Middle East - Al Jazeera English

Fatah, the Palestinian political organisation, has reached an agreement with its rival Hamas on forming an interim government and fixing a date for a general election, says Al Jazeera.

Quoting Egyptian intelligence sources, the Arabic broadcaster said representatives from both Palestinian factions had been in negotiation in Egypt.

"The consultations resulted in full understandings over all points of discussions, including setting up an interim agreement with specific tasks and to set a date for election," Egyptian intelligence said in a statement yesterday.

A Hamas government spokesman in Gaza, Taher Al-Nono, told the Reuters news agency that both sides have signed an initial agreement and that all differences had been overcome.

A formal signing ceremony of the agreement would take place in Cairo soon.
