Connie Lawn: Another major award for Ambassador Mike Moore
Another major award for Ambassador Mike Moore
Report by Connie LawnAmbassador Mike Moore has received another major honor, to add to about 10 awards he has already received. This is the Honorary Order of Australia. The Australian Government says it is "For Service to the South Australian Government by developing initiatives in economic reform and for service to the education sector." They say The Order of Australia "confers the highest recognition for outstanding achievement and service. Honorary awards are made to people who are not Australian citizens where they have given extraordinary service to Australia or humanity at large."
Ambassador Mike Moore told us "Australians are our best mates, and I have always seen Australia as a central partner."
Mike Moore is a former Prime Minister of New Zealand and former Director General of the World Trade Organization. Most Americans realize he is not the plump, pushy film director who shares the same name!
Ambassador Moore and the Australian Ambassador, Kim Beazley, are two of the most qualified and friendly Ambassadors in Washington. They often conduct events together, and are doing a great job in matters of trade, security, and publicity for their countries.
