New Zealand Trade and Enterprise held a reception at the Embassy of New Zealand showcasing products of healthcare technology companies. Twelve NZ companies had representatives present: Aranz Medical’s Silhouette captures images for remote management of skin ulcers; Emendo Health’s CapPlan software manages resource utilization for hospitals; Fisher and Paykel Healthcare HumiGard provides heating and humidification for gases used in laparoscopic surgery; InAble’s AbleX exercises the arms after stroke or neurotrauma; Impactware garments protect the hip to prevent fractures; Locus Research manages the development and testing of multiple projects for other firms; Manuka Health’s medical grade honey with methylglyoxal helps heal wounds; MoleSafe’s dermatoscopy and digital photography system assists in the diagnosis and tracking of pigmented skin lesions; Orion Health’s HIE software facilitates health information exchange between electronic health record systems; Pacific Edge’s Cxbladder detects urologic cancers; RexBionics Rex robot supports wheelchair users to walk and climb without assistance; and Zephyr Technology’s wearable sensors transmit vital sign data from individuals through their cellphones to remote monitoring services.
The event was attended by interested government and private buyers from the Washington area. Ambassador Moore welcomed the participants and the NZ military attaché thanked the US healthcare community for caring for troops injured in Afghanistan. It offered another example of the growing close cooperation between the NZ and US military communities.
Connie was delighted to see Natasha Williams of Impactwear.com and learn that her latest hip pads will soon be available. Connie used her hip pads while skiing last season. She fell on an area she had broken the previous season. This time the hip stayed intact and the three titanium screws were not dislodged. The pads are lightweight and comfortable. They slip into pockets of specially made undergarments. The new ones are light enough they can be worn at night while sleeping.
Connie was also delighted to meet Linda-Rose Daya, manager of the health program for NZTE, and was extremely impressed with her depth of knowledge. She is a great representative of New Zealand products.
