Andrew Little’s response to John Key’s pre-budget address
Labour Party leader Andrew Little spoke today on John Key’s pre-budget address this afternoon in Wellington.
Little said National has had seven years to achieve a surplus and Kiwis have “fufilled their end of the bargain.”
He described the promise of $244 million toward new schools as a “reheated announcement” and that these “new schools” are essential anyway due to estimated population growth in New Zealand.
Little said he expects New Zealanders to be dissapointed with the budget as “they deserve to see the payback” after years of hard work.
With regard to Nationals promise of $20 million toward research and development, Little said that New Zealand’s budget for this area is roughly half the average for OECD countries.
“To really support innovation we need an aggressive tax credit system that rewards all innovating business.”
During questions, Little denounced Simon Bridges’ conduct in seeking advice on bridge construction days out from the election and stated that the Prime Minister needs to hold him accountable.
When asked how he felt about the review hanging over Campell Live, Little replied that robust current affairs news that holds politicians and MPs accountable is necessary for a good democracy.
