Andrew Little on the 2015 Budget
Andrew Little today said the Government’s failure to deliver on their promise of surplus is one of the biggest political deceptions of a lifetime.
Speaking to the Chamber of Commerce, the Labour opposition leader attacked the government’s approach to economic issues facing New Zealand. He said they have been “more than reckless in their complacency” and “the next week’s budget will do nothing to change that.”
Mr Little outlined the changes he would make if in government, highlighting education and innovation. He used the example of disruptive apps such as Uber as hallmarks of future growth.
“If we keep training people for the old economy, we fail the new economy… I want a New Zealand seizing the opportunities of new ways to do business this century, not struggling to catch up as the world moves on,” Little said.
Little did not discuss specific policy or make new policy announcements.
The Future Work Commission, led by Grant Roberston, will “listen more than we talk,” he said. “When we act we’ll make a real difference.” Little called this “open source policy development.”
