1. A Northland farming organisation says banks have quietly started to force debt-ridden farmers to quit, by refusing to re-finance their loans. Farmers of NZ say the successive drops in dairy prices have spooked the lenders, and they are pulling the plug on their most indebted clients.

2. Even though it was caught off guard by the latest slump in national dairy prices, the Government remains confident they will soon rebound, as global consumption is expected to increase.

3. Dairy farmers are calling for clarity about what Fonterra’s job cuts will mean in the long term. The company is cutting 523 jobs, most of them in New Zealand, which it hopes will save it up to $NZ60 million a year.

4. The Department of Corrections says it is investigating how fights at Auckland's Mt Eden Prison were filmed and shared online. Several videos depicting organised bouts between inmates, some with Black Power affiliations, have been filmed using smartphones and uploaded on social media.

5. Greek banks are expected to start re-opening next week after the European Central Bank raised the level of lending available to them. They have been closed for almost three weeks.
