Back to the Future Day – An InterGenerational Treat

Back to the Future Day – An Intergenerational treat.

Well, I know it’s late, but just pretend I wrote it last week and it got caught up in the space time continuum.

I had a blast (from the past) attending the Wellington screening of Back to the Future II at the Reading Theatre last week.

The original film was released in 1989 but set in in 1985. When Marty and the Doc find it imperative to travel to the future and save the fate of Marty and Jennifer’s son.

Most amusing for me was the Doc was setting the digital eighties’ equivalent of the SatNav to October 21 2015. The whole audience gave a rousing cheer.

Well, anyone who is bothering to read this will know the plot. What I found strangely apt was the fact that my “plus one” for the occasion was my teenage son, who was obviously not even a twinkle in the eye at the time I originally saw the film.

He was using his smack up to the minute cell phone to photograph the replica DeLorean which the theatre had installed (nice touch) while people posed on the Green Screen to give the appearance of Hoverboarding. It was wonderful.

So of course, not all the predictions were accurate, (We of the Blue Peter generation are still waiting for the flying cars) but twas a great wheeze. I thoroughly enjoyed it (though – and showing my age here- I don’t remember dear, sweet Marty swearing like that.)

The youngster enjoyed it hugely as well, so sucks to my young (but older than him) colleague who reckons the films have not dated (Ha!) well.

Thanks also for the Popcorn, keyrings, fizzy pop, memento tumblers (?) and general hospitality.

Great Scott it was a good evening - Could you get a more (Pop) corny conclusion than that?
