Poll Shock For Prebble in Wellington Central

Last nights TV One Colmar Brunton Poll of Wellington Central has revealed a cliffhanger race for the seat of parliament with ACT leader Richard Prebble on 47 per cent and Labour’s Marian Hobbs on 48 per cent of the electorate vote.

The poll of 500 Wellington voters was taken after Alliance MP Phillida Bunkle withdrew from the race in the seat last week. The move looks like it has made all the difference with Bunkles 10 per cent support seeming to directly swing in behind Hobbs.

In terms of how Wellingtonians look set to use their party vote National and Labour are tied on 35 per cent each, the Alliance is on 10 per cent, ACT on 11, the Greens on four and NZ First and United on one per cent each. Fourteen per cent are still undecided.

The significance of Wellington Central has now been largely diminished with ACT looking certain to gain MPs in parliament with or without winning the seat.
