Changes To Pot Laws - Second Snake Found - Car Crash Funerals - India Massacre - Pope’s Visit – Warne Says Sorry

CHANGES TO POT LAWS: Changes to cannabis laws could be on the horizon with a special One News straw poll showing more MPs in Pariament in favour of decriminalization. The Government has said it will review cannabis laws later this year. Prime Minister Helen Clark, Health Minister Annette King, and Green MP Nandor Tanzcos are all in favour of changing marijuana laws, with Mr Tanzcos complete legalization.

SECOND SNAKE FOUND: In other news environmentalists are calling for stricter border controls after a second poisonous snake – a green pit-viper – was found alive by a worker in a shipping container at the port of Lytleton. Earlier this week, an Australian eastern brown snake was discovered in Wellington. The Green Party has called for a review of customs policy in the wake of the incident. Meanwhile MAF officials have taken the snake for studying.

CAR CRASH FUNERALS: The six victims who died in one of the country’s most horrific car-crashes were paid their respects by thousands of mourners at a tangi near Wanganui. The family were on their way a marriage in their van when they collided head on with a meat truck. Police were still investigating the cause of the crash.

INDIA MASSACRE: The first day of President Bill Clinton’s visit to India was marred by violence when 36 Sikhs were killed by Hindus in a small town in the troubled province of Kashmir. In the capital, Dehli, Mr Clinton meet leaders of the world’s largest democracy, accompanied by his daughter Chelsea

POPE’S VISIT: Pope John Paul II is in Israel on his tour retracing Christ’s steps in the Holy Land. In an emotional speech the Pope appealed for religious tolerance and peace between Arabs and Jews in the country. Palestinians hope the Pope’s visit to Bethlehem will focus international attention on their struggle for an independent state, while Jews expect an apology over the Vatican’s indifference in the holicaust.

WARNE SAYS SORRY: Aussie star bowler Shane Warne said he was sorry to two young kiwi fans after he turned nasty a month ago when the fans took a photo of him smoking in a dressing room. The fans say Mr Warne is still a “great guy” and have put the matter behind them.
