Peace Researcher - First Issue Of New Millennium

"Peace Researcher" is the journal of the Anti-Bases Campaign.

The latest issue (the first of this millennium) is just out. It contains:

*a lengthy and detailed report on David Small's succcessful court case against the Police (arising from his having caught the SIS agents breaking into Aziz Choudry's Christchurch home, in 1996);

*a report on the January 2000 protest action at the Waihopai spybase;

*the latest on the worldwide scandal involving Echelon, the electronic spying programme of which Waihopai is part;

*the new members of the Intelligence and Security Committee (which has nominal "oversight" of NZ's spy agencies);

*how to complain to the Inspector-General of Intelligence and Security;

*latest data on US military aircraft movements in and out of the US Air Force base at Christchurch Airport (Harewood);

*the latest on the Visiting Forces Agreement allowing the US military back into the Philippines and a first hand account of a February 2000 Filipino protest action, by a Kiwi who took part;

*an obituary for veteran peace activist, Margaret Hales;

*an analysis of the role played by Western mercenaries in the Sierra Leone civil war and how we helped keep mercenary boss Tim Spicer out of a Welsh university;

*revelations that Australian "aid workers" arrested during the Kosovo war and jailed for spying were actually spies; the leading role of the CIA in the "ceasefire monitoring" operation in Kosovo immediately before NATO's Kosovo war;

*and Christchurch Police blame the US Secret Service for stealing a protest banner from a local MP's courtyard during President Clinton's September 1999 Christchurch visit.
