GUNFIGHT IN SUVA: The war of words turns into a war of bullets. Gun-fire and grenades were traded by both sides in Fiji’s parliamentary complex, with four Speight supporters wounded in the legs. Three were unarmed civilians.

MILITARY REBEL: Earlier in the day 80 military soldiers rebelled on the town of Labasa in the second main island of Fiji. Taking over the camp.

GOFF ON FIJI: Foreign Minister Phil Goff says he has heard two conflicting stories about the conflict, but blames the violence squarely on coup leader George Speight.

SOLOMON ISLANDS: Meanwhile there is more trouble brewing in the Solomon Islands. The ceasefire between the Istabu fighters and Malaitan Eagle Force has broken down.

GILLAN PUNISHED: Alliance MP Grant Gillan has been censured in the House after he uttered an obscene remark at question time in Parliament.

ANDERTON JOBS MACHINE: Meanwhile, Alliance Leader Jim Anderton has launched his jobs machine – an industry development scheme to help the regions launched at Cloud Nine Studios today.

INVERCARGIL TEENS MISSING: It is another anxious night for the families and friends of three Invercargil teenagers who have been missing for three days. Police are baffled by the disappearance.

TODD ALLEGATIONS: The secretary general of the New Zealand Olympic Committee has asked Mark Todd to clarify whether he took cocaine in Britain after a tabloid newspaper accused him drug use.
