JOHN TAMIHERE ALLEGATIONS: New allegatoins have surfaced today about Labour MP John Tamihere. The MP made a public statement in Parliament about the allegations today. He denied the allegations of fraud in a Maori property scheme, while he has admitted three convictions for drink driving offenses. The allegations surfaced after an anonymous fax came into Radio New Zealand’s Parliament news desk.
PREBBLE DENIES INVOLVEMENT: Meanwhile, ACT Leader Richard Prebble has denied being behind spreading the allegations in Parliament today.
JOHN TAMIHERE HISTORY: John Tamihere has only been in Parliament a short time but already he has been the centre of four separate inquiries into his background. All inquiries cleared Mr Tamihere.
FAMILY VISIT ACCIDENT SCENE: The family of the three Invercargill teenagers who died driving into a Southland river visited the scene of the accident this afternoon. The accident happened last Saturday after a private road washed out. The family said the farmer who owned the road should not be blamed for the accident. Federated Farmers agree and say they will support the farmer if police prosecute him.
AUSSIE OLYMPIC DRUGS SCANDAL: In Australia a discus thrower has writeen a a book in which he admits to taking illegal performance enhancing drugs. The book also makes allegations about unnamed sports officials who were said to have acted in complicity with many other athletes who have abused drugs. The athlete behind the book says he cannot reveal the names of the sports-people involved for legal reasons.
TODD ALLEGATIONS: Meanwhile
the NZ Olympic Committee met today to decide which promising
athletes would receive extra funding to compete in the
Sydney Olympics. Olympic champion equestrian Mark Todd,
currently at the centre of drug allegations, was reportedly
on the list. The Committee would not reveal whether Todd
had been granted extra
funding.
