TAMIHERE ALLEGATIONS: John Tamihere has conceded that he may not have been accurate about his court records after an NBR article shows his record had five not three drink-driving convictions.

- STABBING REPORT: A Ministry of Health report into the death of a psychiatric nurse from a disturbed patient says the man did not get all the mental health treatment he needed.

- CERVICAL INQUIRY: An Australian specialist in gynaecological cancer has told the cervical cancer inquiry that the under-reporting of cervical smear tests had been “as bad as it gets.”

- TOURISM SPIN OFFS: Unrest in the Fiji and the Solomon Islands has had a positive spin off for other island nations in the region. But a group of tourist operators meeting in Auckland worry the problems in the two destinations may taint the South Pacific region.

- SAFETY MEASURES: A day after five people died on a stretch of State Highway One north of Wellington near Pukerua Bay, Transit New Zealand has said it will put in place stringent safety measures on the route, including road widening, overtaking bans and video surveillance.

- MARK TODD & FUNDING: New Zealand Equestrian Mark Todd, in trouble for allegations of cocaine use, will receive a personal grant as part of the money given to the NZ Equestrian Foundation by the NZ Sports Foundation.

- LORD OF THE RINGS PROSECUTION: A New Zealand Company director will appear in court again on August 4rh after appearing today for stealing props and film samples from the Lord Of The Rings set in Wellington.

- CELL PHONE TOWER SITE: Telecom says it has still not found an alternative site for a controversial cell-phone tower after Christchurch residents successfully stopped the tower being erected in their area.

- MAN IN COCKPIT: Airport authorities in Sydney are investigating how a man got through a security fence and was found in the cockpit of an Air New Zealand 747 plane.
