- FALLING DOLLAR: The news is bad for consumers, motorists and overseas travellers yesterday as the dollar tumbled to a 15-year low of US43.35 cents, putting fresh pressure on inflation, already swollen by higher petrol prices.
- UREWERA ROAD: The Government is having second thoughts about spending $260,000 upgrading a road used only about 500 people a year in the Urewera National Park, which leads to land owned by Maori activist Tame Iti.
- DEFENCE SPENDING: Australia criticised the New Zealand defence budget decisions announced yesterday, which signalled the possible end of the military maritime patrol capability.
