Superannuation Fund – Tranz rail Shakeup - Mallard Simulated ‘Victim’ – Truscott’s Security Costly – Fletcher Energy Bought

- SUPERANNUATION FUND: Finance Minister Michael Cullen has finally laid out his plan to guarantee a pension to every New Zealander, but he says it will require disciplined management of the public finances by this and future Governments.

- TRANZ RAIL SHAKEUP: A huge shakeup at rail and transport company Tranz Rail will mean about 3400 staff will be working for new masters, leaving just 600 or so behind in the existing company.

- MALLARD SIMULATED ‘VICTIM’: The Minister of Education and Sport, Fitness and Leisure, Trevor Mallard, had to be plucked from fast flowing water as he began to fade, while demonstrating river safety by being the “victim” in a simulated drowning in the Hutt River.

- TRUSCOTT’S SECURITY COSTLY: Health authorities were spending $164,000 a year to keep intellectually handicapped HIV positive former male prostitute Christopher Truscott in a facility that was deemed “secure,” despite his latest escape, associate Health Minister Ruth Dyson said yesterday.

- FLETCHER ENERGY BOUGHT: Overseas investors, Royal Dutch Shell and Apache Corporate, have snapped up another key New Zealand business, agreeing to pay $4.6 billion for Fletcher Challenge’s energy arm and most of it’s Taranaki energy exploration and production assets.
