Digital TV – Tua Fight – US Presidential Election – Austrian Rail Disaster – Botched Landing – A&P Show

- DIGITAL TV: TVNZ and Testrasaturn have revealed their plans for digital television. A set-top box will cost a few hundred dollars, but TVNZ will provide free to air channels. Digital TV will provide clearer pictures, and interactive options like email, and choices of camera angles. A satellite dish will be required, or cable from the Saturn network. TVNZ say analogue TV will be obsolete in 10 years. The digital TV service should be on air by the middle of next year.

- TUA FIGHT: New Zealand Samoan boxer David Tua’s career appears to be on shaky ground. Tua was out of his league against Lennox Lewis yesterday. Many pundits called the fight a stinker and a disappointment that didn’t live up to the hype.

- US PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION: The US Presidential election cliffhanger continues in court tomorrow. Republicans are trying to stop a manual recount of the votes cast in Palm Beach Florida. Both Al Gore and George W. Bush are trying to remain presidential and upbeat.

- AUSTRIAN RAIL DISASTER: Rescue teams in Austria have been able to examine the wreckage of the alpine train that was engulfed in fire. At least 105 people are confirmed to be dead, and the body count could be as high as 175. DNA testing will have to be used to identify most of the bodies. A German world champion skier is thought to be amongst the dead.

- BOTCHED LANDING: The Civil Aviation Authority is looking into a botched plane landing. The plane skidded and rolled on landing. The pilot was lucky to only have an injured finger.

- A&P SHOW: The A&P show parade rolled through Christchurch today. Farmers have had good reason to feel good with a bright outlook for the farming sector.
