Bush Takes Florida – ACC Premiums – Murray Stretch Murderer – Murder Mystery – Marijuana Research

- BUSH TAKES FLORIDA: George W. Bush has taken Florida and declared himself the winner of the 2000 United States presidential election. He says he has begun setting up a transitional government. But Al Gore is not ready to concede. Gore’s running Mate Joe Lieberman called the tally inaccurate and incomplete, after Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris certified the result of the Florida election, which did not include the partial hand count in Palm Beach or a hand count for Miami Dade County. She announced George W. Bush had won by 537 votes and had won the State and the Presidency. More legal action from the Gore campaign will be taken.

- ACC PREMIUMS: The Government has confirmed it is cutting ACC premiums, cutting costs for many businesses. Many in business were angry at the renationalisation of ACC, saying they made significant savings with private workplace insurers. National have said the government is at best 12 moths behind where private insurers would have been at the same stage.

- MURRAY STRETCH MURDERER: The man who murdered Mangakino constable Murray Stretch has had his prison sentence reduced.

- MURDER MYSTERY: Police have rejected new theories put forward by the brothers of Arthur Allen Thomas, who was wrongly convicted of murdering Harvey and Jeanette Crue. The Thomas’s believe they know who killed the Crues. Police say their evidence is rumour speculation and innuendo.

- MARIJUANA RESEARCH: New research shows smoking marijuana is just as bad for your health as tobacco. Doctors say they will use the evidence to fight moves towards decriminalisation of the drug.
