Bain Appeal – Privy Council – Aratere Fails – Overpaid Boss – Bus Driver Dies
- BAIN APPEAL: The Government is expected to refer David Bain’s controversial murder convictions back to the Court of Appeal.
- PRIVY COUNCIL: Attorney-General Margaret Wilson issued a discussion paper last night calling for New Zealand to sever its ties with the Privy Council, which for nearly 160 years has been New Zealand’s final court of appeal.
- ARATERE FAILS: A fault in all four engines has tied up the Cook Strait ferry Aratere till at least Friday, upsetting thousands of holidaymakers’ travel plans, disrupting freight delivery schedules and annoying the Automobile Association.
- OVERPAID BOSS: Contact Energy paid former chief executive Paul Anthony a $2.9 million salary package in the year to September – more than six times the pay of a chief executive of a comparable New Zealand business.
- BUS DRVER DIES: Barry Hollis, the Wellington bus driver who was hit by a car several weeks ago died in hospital yesterday.
