- PEOPLE’S BANK: ACT Leader Richard Prebble says he will waive parliamentary privilege and appear in court tomorrow to prevent NZ Post obtaining a gagging order against Mr Prebble over leaked information on the people’s bank. NZ Post is also asking for damages and costs to be awarded against Mr Prebble.

- MAF STRIKE: There has been a breakthrough for two vet strike affected North Island meat processing companies. Richmond and AFFCO are again processing meat after MAF offered to provide them with a vet to certify product for export.

- JAMIESON INVESTIGATION: Police investigating the murder of Marie Jamieson have been questioning factory workers in the area where her body was found.

- VODAFONE TAPPING: The Police Association says criminals will switch to other cell phone companies if police seal a deal that allows them to intercept calls on the Vodafone network. Police already have a deal allowing them to intercept calls on the Telecom network.

- MEDICAL SCHOOL RESIGNATIONS: Otago University managers have met staff and students to try to ease tensions that have led to the resignation of 14 clinical lecturers from teaching posts at the Wellington Medical School.

- FOOT IN MOUTH DISEASE: Britain has imposed a complete ban on the export of animals, meat, and milk after the discovery of foot in mouth disease in pigs in the south of the country.

- CADET INJURED: A cadet has been seriously wounded in an explosion at a territorial army base in West London. Scotland Yard said the cadet picked up an object which exploded in his had.

- FBI SPY: The FBI is trying to calculate the extent of the damage to US security by information allegedly leaked to Russia by a top level FBI agent.

- EARTHQUAKE MONITORING: A multimillion-dollar package to upgrade New Zealand’s surveillance system for monitoring earthquakes, volcanic and other geological activity was announced in Wellington today.

- GM COMMISSION: The Catholic Bishop’s Conference said some aspects of Genetic Engineering may be considered to be man playing god, in their submission to the Royal Commission on Genetic Modification.

- ELECTRICITY INQUIRY: The chairman of the ministerial inquiry into the electricity industry says the independence of a proposed supervisory board may lead to cheaper electricity prices.

- PROSECUTION STRUCK OUT: The Blenheim District Court has struck out a private prosecution brought by the convicted multiple rapist Stuart Murray Wilson against the police officer who headed the investigation.

- POTTER DEAL: Harry Potter has conjured about $300m out of a film marketing deal with Coca-Cola.
