Vet Strike Ends – Foot And Mouth Disease – Living Allowances – Kiwi Bank – Marie Jamieson – Rex Hague – Eminem Wins

- VET STRIKE ENDS: The MAF vets have accepted an offer by MAF just an hour ago, ending eight days of striking. The vets accepted a pay increase of four percent - they wanted 10. The end of the industrial dispute means the meat industry can fill orders in the lucrative meat export industry. The strike has come at a cost for meat workers, who have had to stay at home without pay.

- FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE: Exports of all meat, livestock and milk from Britain have been banned, with an outbreak of foot and mouth disease among pigs at an Essex abattoir. The investigation goes on into the source of the outbreak, not easy as hundreds of farms use the abattoir. The disease is highly contagious. The British meat industry has just emerged from the mad cow disease scare, to be hit by this latest crisis.

- LIVING ALLOWANCES: Prime Minister Helen Clark questioned the living arrangements of National deputy leader Bill English and leader Jenny Shipley, after the controversy over the out of town allowances being claimed by Government ministers Phillida Bunkle and Marion Hobbs. Miss Clark says Jenny Shipley only spends one day a month at her electoral address. Southland MP Bill English’s family live in Wellington.

- KIWI BANK: ACT leader Richard Prebble has been served with a court order by NZ Post to keep quiet about the information he has been leaked on the NZ Post Kiwi bank business plan. Tomorrow, a high court hearing will decide whether Mr Prebble has to return the leaked papers.

- MARIE JAMIESON: Friends and family of murdered hairdresser Marie Jamieson gathered to remember her today.

- REX HAGUE: The Governor General has said no to a pardon or retrial for Rex Hague.

- EMINEM WINS: Eminem won three awards at the Grammys this afternoon, to the disappointment of some gay and women’s groups. But not veteran gay piano man Elton John, who dueted with Eminem at the ceremony. In April Eminem, real name Marshal Mathers III, will be sentenced on a weapons charge.
