- WATERFRONT DISPUTE: The Waterfront Workers Union is considering legal action over a leaked draft mediation report into the South Island ports dispute. The Union says the leak makes it more difficult to settle the dispute. National MP Nick smith leaked the report.

- JUDGES’ SUPERANNUATION: The Green Party has expressed concern over a decision by the Higher Salaries Commission that will see taxpayers contribute more towards Judges’ Superannuation packages.

- WOODS WIN: Tiger Woods has become the first man ever to win all of Golf’s four major international tournaments in a row.

- COMMUNITY FUNDING: Services for at-risk children and their families have been targeted in $70m worth of Government funding to community providers.

- SOPHIE STING: The Queen has turned on the British press after a News of the World sting forced her daughter in law the Countess of Wessex Sophie Rhys-Jones to quit her job as head of a PR firm.

- HIGHWAY: Some freight companies say they believe they could make big savings as a result of a planned highway linking Auckland’s main motorways and the city’s port. TransFund has agreed in principle to the $80m needed for the first two stages of the highway.

- PALMERSTON NTH COUNCIL: Minister of Local Government Sandra Lee’s advisers are considering a request for a ministerial review of the Palmerston North City Council because of an agreement made by the council to sell its building in the city square to be turned into a four star hotel.

- HOLLYFORD WALK: A German Magazine advertisement linking Fiordland’s Holyford Valley track to an American cigarette company has been condemned as compromising New Zealand’s clean green image.
