DWI Meets Targets – Yelish – Guinea Pigs – POW Compensation – Graham Parry – Wellington Murder – Illegal Search – Uncomfortable Landing

- DWI MEETS TARGETS: The Department of Work and Income is trumpeting a turn around in its performance under Christine Rankin’s leadership, as Ms Rankin sues the government for over $800,000 over its decision not to renew her contract. But a One News poll found 67 per cent of people thought the Government had treated Ms Rankin fairly.

- YELISH: John Yelish says he’s going to sue the Prime Minister again, this time for breaching a breach in the secrecy clause of their agreement in talking about who footed the bill.

- GUINEA PIGS: Its been revealed that at least seven New Zealand people may have been used as guinea pigs in British nuclear experiments during the fifties. Previously, five were known to have been involved. The New Zealand Government has given a veterans organisation $200,000 to pursue legal action against the British Government.

- POW COMPENSATION: Five former POWs are the first to receive compensation from the Government for mistreatment at the hands of the Japanese during WWII.

- GRAHAM PARRY: Disgraced Gynaecologist Graham Parry is making a bid to return to medicine. Parry’s lawyers are appealing to the Auckland District Court to let him back on the medical register.

- WELLINGTON MURDER: A man and a woman have been charged in connection with the murder of a Wellington woman who disappeared in mid April.

- ILLEGAL SEARCH: A West Coast man has won an apology from police after they illegally searched his home, damaging a door, two years ago.

- UNCOMFORTABLE LANDING: A Dutch student paraglider in Christchurch landed in power lines in Christchurch. Power to Christchurch homes was cut while he was freed. He was rescued by helicopter.
