Bad Diesel – Powell Trial – Police Chase – Race Riots – Speed Train
- BAD DIESEL: Fish supplies are running low as the cost of the diesel crisis begins to sink in. Oil companies still can’t say what’s wrong with the additive, but a warning has gone out to boaties to not go to sea. Three oil tankers are on the water now bringing untainted diesel. Oil companies say they will consider reasonable compensation requests by affected businesses and will pay to have clogged filters replaced. Clean diesel will be available by Thursday, but the dirty diesel will have to be pumped out of boats. Experts from Europe have arrived. Challenge and Gull have untainted diesel – their supply is imported.
- POWELL TRIAL: Derek Powell, the Christchurch man charged over the death of a picketer, told police he had no idea he had run anyone over. Video footage of the police interview was shown at court today. The court also heard a tape of Mr Powell’s emergency call to police after the incident, when he was attacked by picketers. The call picked up the sound of picketers abusing Powell.
- POLICE CHASE: A forensics dentist has been brought in to identify a motorist who crashed and died while being pursued by police. Police have refused to say why they were chasing the man.
- RACE RIOTS: Police and rioters have clashed in the second night of racially motivated violence in the streets of Oldham in North West England.
- SPEED TRAIN: A high
speed train broke records as it traveled the length of
France at an average speed 306 km/hr.
