The New York Times features coverage of Kosovo and reports that In the first big wave of a reverse exodus of refugees who were driven from Kosovo in a Serbian campaign of terror, more than 12,000 cheering, stunned Albanians began the journey home. The paper says after a tense standoff American marines confiscated the weapons of more than 100 ethnic Albanian insurgents and detained six of their leaders.

CRIME - The House has approved tough mandatory minimum sentences to combat juvenile crime. But rejected a measure that would have made it a crime to expose children to movies, books or video games containing explicit sex or violence.

GORE - Vice President Al Gore officially announced he was seeking the Presidency with a pledge to "bring a new wave of fundamental change to this nation."

MARKETS - The Consumer Price Index, which rose less than 1 percent in April, did not rise at all in May.

EDUCATION STANDARDS - New York City is preparing for the nation's largest mandatory summer school program, despite studies that do not show conclusively whether mandatory summer school works.

MEDICARE EXPANDS - By a vote of 99 to 0, the Senate on Wednesday passed a bill that would expand Medicaid and Medicare so people with disabilities could retain their health benefits when they return to work.
