1. RIVER OWNERSHIP - The Waitangi Tribunal has come down in favour of river tribes along the Whanganui river. The Tribunal's long awaited report says past and successive Governments are to blame for theft. They say while the river was and is not privately owned it was the common property of the people and compensation should be paid. Tau Henare says the Government will look at the report and respond in several weeks time.

2. IMMIGRATION - Another family is to be split because of immigration laws. A Russian sailor who was stranded here during a pay dispute, married a local woman and they have a baby. But the Immigration Minister says that is not enough and he will be leaving the country.

3. MAURI PACIFIC - Mauri Pacific held its first national conference in West Auckland today Eighty supporters at the conference. No specific policies, just a wish list. Intend to compete in up to 25 seats.

4. PROTEST - APEC Protesters has a practice run today outside a business symposium where they tussled with Police.

5. KOSOVO - Some Serb troops are holding rebellious protests because they have not been paid. Army playing down the significance. President Clinton is still urging Serbs to oust Molosevic. Albanians are attacking Serbs and looting their property.

6. ATHLETIC PARK - Wellington held a big party today for the last test match at Athletic Park. It was played in a cold southerly wind, but the crowd warmed to the occasion as the All Blacks beat the French. Provincial matches still to be played this season. New Stadium opens next January, first rugby match in February.
