US SHOOTING: A gunman with a sub-machine gun severely wounded a five year old and hit four others in a shooting spree at a Jewish community day care centre. The 40 year old gunman is still on the run and a mammoth man hunt is on.
WATSON: A scientist said he could not say one way or another whether blood was in the cabin of Scott Watson’s boat Blade. He said he found 176 scratch marks dug into the hatch cover – made by finger nails.
CONCERT: The Gisborne millennium concert has been cancelled and the company is heading for liquidation. Only 1000 tickets have be sold.
IBM: The Police Commissioner Peter Doone denies claims by IBM that the police made a number of major changes to the contract for INCIS.
MANSLAUGHTER: A woman convicted of manslaughter after killing her husband in a ritualistic killing has left the Kohanga Reo where she was working as a volunteer in Stokes Valley.
INDIA – PAKISTAN: An Indian jet shot down a Pakistani reconaissance aircraft killing 16 people. India say it was in their territory and tried to force it to land before shooting it down. Both sides say they have wreckage on their sides of the border.
MURDER: The bodies of a woman and two children killed in a Totara Heights house have been released to the families today. An injured man has yet to be spoken to by police after being denied access to him by his lawyer.
MED COUNCIL: The Medical Council has been urged to loosen the regulatory process to encourage doctors into New Zealand to boost rural health services.
NATS: The National Party has launched a provincial tour in Blenheim today. She says her members will visit every town in the country before the election. She attacked Labour and the Alliance over tax and the Employment Contracts Act.
FIBRE BOARD PLANT: A Southland fibre board plant suffered an explosion this morning and a fire followed.
LAB WORKERS: Auckland Health Care Lab Workers plan to strike next week for a three per cent pay rise. They say workers are leaving because they are paid so poorly and public health becomes an issue with the exodus of skilled and qualified diagnostic staff.
HOSPITALS: British hospitals are preparing for an
exodus after todays eclipse. They are certain people will
look directly at it and damage their
eyes.
