TV3 News - Young America splits in half - Labour's new advertisement campaign causes split between president and leader - India flood waters go down but death-toll rises.
Yacht Splits - It was the first drama of the Americas Cup. Young America split in half on the Hauraki Gulf this afternoon. It resembled a banana and began to sink. The crew abandoned ship with two returning to salvage sails and equipment. Floatation bags were inflated and a tow-rope brought the yacht back to shore. No crew were hurt. The event brought back memories of One Australia's sinking at San Diego in the last Americas Cup regatta. A race jury will decide whether the New York Yacht Club can continue to race in its backup yacht.
Labour Rift - A rift has emerged between Labour leader Helen Clark and the party's president, Bob Harvey. Harvey has publicly objected to Labour's newspaper advertising campaign which criticises National. He also objects to Labour entering into talks with New Zealand First should it hold the balance of power after this month's general election. Helen Clark says Mr Harvey should have taken the time to check the advertisements before they went to press, and that Labour has an obligation to talk with New Zealand First should that "worst" case situation eventuate after the election.
Cullen Releases Spend Plan - Labour finance spokesperson Michael Cullen today released his party's spending plan should it become the government after this month's election. Its promises will cost New Zealand $4.3 billion over three years. But Labour will need to get New Zealand First leader. Winston Peters' support for tax increases should he hold the balance of power - something which Peters is refusing to agree to. Cullen says, if Labour cannot increase taxes then cuts to social spending will eventuate. However, the Party's seven commitment promises are "not negotiable", he says.
ACT is trailing behind Labour in Wellington Central - ACT leader Richard Prebble is trailing Labour's Marion Hobbs but one percentage point int he race for the Wellington Central electorate. Hobbs is on 48 percent support and Prebble is on 47 percent.
Ozzie Kiwis Called To Vote - Australian Kiwis are being encouraged to vote in the New Zealand general election. Fewer Kiwi ex-pats living in Australia vote compared to those living in England. The Electoral Enrolment Centre is campaigning to increase the number of New Zealand elegible voters living in Australia to take part in this month's general election.
Shipley Meets ABs - Prime Minister Jenny Shipley this morning met the returning and defeated All Blacks at Auckland International Airport.
