Poll Shows Centre-Left Set For Beehive -
The latest and last TV One Colmar Brunton Poll shows Labour
is in the Box-Seat. The Centre-left is in control in the
final days before the general election.
The poll was
taken over the past three days and includes the fallout from
Tuariki Delamere’s sacking.
Support for Labour is leaping
forward to 39% up 5
National is behind on 31% down
2
Alliance is on 8% down 1
ACT is on 7% down
4
Greens are on 6% up 4
New Zealand First is on 3%
down 3.
The means Labour would get 49 seats in the
House
Alliance 10 seats
Greens 8 seats.
National
would get 39 seats
ACT 9 seats
United 1 seat
New
Zealand First would get 4 seats if Peters wins Tauranga or
Tu Wylie wins Te Tai Tonga.
Preferred Prime Minister also
goes to Labour with Helen Clark on 30%
Jenny Shipley is
on 27%
Jim Anderton is on 7%
Winston Peters is on
3%
and Richard Prebble is on 1%.
Political Editor Linda Clack says National strategists say National is only 4% behind Labour and not what this poll shows.
Under Siege - ACT was under siege today from inside its campaign bus. Placard wielding protesters surrounded Richard Prebble, Rodney Hide and Donna Awatere Huata. ACT campaigners had to shout through megaphones but were drowned out by the crowd’s shouting.
Chinese/Maori Immigration Scheme - Jenny
Shipley is dogged by the fallout from the Tuariki Delamere
Immigration scheme. She says it was important to remove him
from his portfolio as it was a policy issue which required
urgent attention. She defended her decision not to remove
him from Cabinet saying it is only two days until the
election.
Tuariki Delamere says the Immigration scheme
was Donna Awatere Huata’s husband’s idea. But Donna Awatere
Huata says she personally had no part in any
wrongdoing.
The scheme involved Chinese businessmen
paying around half the required amount of money under New
Zealand immigration law to remain in New Zealand - this only
if they paid the money toward Maori investment and business
development.
But Delamere’s timing looks likely to gain
him support from some Maori supporters. Those in his
electorate canvassed say they support his idea.
Linda Clark says: “There’s an element of stunt to it.” Many in Maoridom are saying the whole affair will give him a hand up on polling day. ACT is being damaged by the news that Donna Awatere’s Husband is involved. ACT’s rural supporters will not like it.
Unregistered Voters - 270,000
Voters are still not registered to vote. And 40% of those
are in the Auckland region. Tomorrow is the last day to get
registered.
14 Year Old Girl Speaks Out - A 14 year
old Christchurch girl speaks out on how three men and one
woman drew her into a life of prostitution and drugs. She
spoke out after a 30 year old woman admitted her part in
injecting the girl with drugs.
The girl says they used
needles to inject her with morphine and gave her pills to
blackout what went on. She had to make $300 to $400 a day to
pay for the drugs and says the four kept the rest. “I didn’t
want to work. I am only 14... they had it over me."
"I’m
just a 14 year old... they have taken that from
me.”
