Suggestion For The Auckland Council Chambers Walls
Party Leader Graham Capill suggests that if the Auckland Mayor insists on removing portraits of the Royal Family from the walls of the Council Chambers, the Ten Commandments would be a culturally relevant replacement.
Mr Capill said, “Given that New Zealand is a Christian nation and that Her Majesty promises to reign under the authority of God, to be reminded of the Ten Commandments would be most appropriate.
“They would also provide a good ‘code’ for the Council to work under. As the Commandments remind us that all authority is exercised under God, perhaps they would encourage the Council to become more circumspect in its decision making.
“Many young New Zealanders are not taught how to live responsibly. We would have less crime, greater respect for parents, more honesty and real care for our neighbours if the Commandments were once again promoted as a code of behaviour. I would be glad to donate these if Auckland City Council would make a place on the wall available,” Mr Capill concluded.
