Northland Rescue PC Row Warning Of Things To Come

Northland Rescue Services Political Correctness Row A Warning Of Things To Come

The row over Northland's rescue helicopter services and ACC shows how silly the political correctness and cultural safety argument has become, and is a dire warning of things to come, says United New Zealand leader, Hon Peter Dunne.

Mr Dunne that by all accounts the Northland service has been successful and well supported by local people.

"That should be the beginning and end of the issue."

"However, what seems to have happened is that political correctness in the form of rigid bureaucratic adherence to cultural safety has got in the way of common sense, and that is putting the rescue service at risk."

"Government agencies like ACC will simply make laughing stocks of themselves and destroy public confidence if they start down this line."

"Yet this is precisely the type of situation that will become routine if the Government proceeds with its plan to insert Treaty of Waitangi clauses into social legislation."

"That is why the current Northland rescue situation has national implications because it is a grim preview of what lies ahead for all New Zealanders," Mr Dunne says.
