Appointment Of Judge Of The High Court – Dr John
Priestley QC
The Attorney-General, Margaret Wilson announced today the appointment of Dr John Priestley as a Judge of the High Court.
Dr Priestley studied law at Auckland University, completing his post-graduate qualifications at Cambridge and the University of Virginia.
On his return to New Zealand, he was a partner at Holmden Horrocks & Co, before becoming a barrister sole. In 1994 Dr Priestly was appointed Queen’s Counsel.
He has practised primarily in the area of family law and general civil litigation.
The new judge’s appointment is temporary in the first instance and he will sit in Auckland.
