Experience

Mana Motuhake leader and Alliance MP, Willie Jackson congratulated Derek Fox on becoming Chairperson of the new Maori TV service today and is disappointed with ACT's response.
"Derek Fox is by far the best broadcaster in Maoridom so he is an excellent choice for chairperson of the new Maori TV service.
"It is sad that ACT have tried to turn his appointment into a political football. To suggest his appointment is merely removing a threat to the Maori seats shows blatant ignorance.
"ACT must have no idea of the type of contribution that Derek has made in Maori broadcasting. He was our foremost Maori language TV presenter, he was our foremost Maori presenter in English on TV and radio, he is the editor for Mana magazine and has filled in for Kim Hill on National Radio.
"As a former broadcaster I felt it was imperative that Derek Fox's skills were utilised. As well as being a major advocate for Maori language he is one of the few Maori Broadcasters who realises the importance of Maori broadcasting in English.
"It is most appropriate that someone with his all round skills is appointed as Chairperson.
"Derek Fox has impeccable qualifications and it would be stupid to ignore someone of his talents as the National Party did when they set up the last Maori television channel.
"His politics are his business. My concern is that we must have the best flagship for Maori Broadcasting. I now feel confident that we can get the type of Maori broadcasting strategy in Maori and English that I've been talking about for a long time." said Willie Jackson MP.
