Rodney Hide Welcomes David Carter as Ruth Richardson's Successor

Tuesday 29 Jan 2002 Rodney Hide Press Releases -- Governance & Constitution

ACT Finance Spokesman MP Rodney Hide today welcomed the appointment of David Carter as National's full-time finance spokesman.

"David Carter is following hard on the heels of Ruth Richardson. He followed in the footsteps of National's last great finance minister by taking over her seat after her retirement from Parliament in 1994.

"He is now taking her place as Finance Spokesman and soon Finance Minister. I know David Carter appreciates the need to get government spending and taxes down, just as Ruth Richardson did. He has big shoes to fill.

"I look forward to working with David to get the top rate of tax down to twenty cents or less. We need more money in people's pockets and less in government coffers.

"In election year, David now has the responsibility to reassert that the National Party stands for less government and freer citizens. I look forward to working with him in the year ahead," Mr Hide said.
