Robert Reid Selected As Alliance Wellington Central Candidate

Wellington Central looks set once more to become the focus of vigorous political party campaigning in this year’s election.

Tonight “loyal” Alliance members from Wellington Central selected senior Party and Trade Union activist, Robert Reid, as their candidate for this high profile seat.

Robert Reid is an Alliance Councillor and co-convener of Workers Alliance, the Alliance Trade Union network. Robert is President of the Unite! trade union and an organiser for clothing, furniture and other manufacturing workers in the region.

Robert Reid has strongly promoted the Alliance’s economic and regional development strategies in the trade union movement and currently sits on the Government / Textile Clothing and Footwear Industry Strategy Group.

Robert Reid is also well known for his peace, justice and international development work. He was a national coordinatior of the Jubilee 2000 campaign on third world debt and has taken a strong public stand against free trade and the war in Afghanistan.

“I am honoured and excited to have been selected to stand for the Alliance in Wellington Central,” Robert Reid said. “My role as candidate is to build the profile of the party in the electorate and to win as many list votes as possible for the Alliance.”

“I expect and am ready for the traditional vigorous, hard fought campaign that Wellington Central has been used to over the years,” said Robert Reid.
