Proposed Increases In Telecom Charges?
New Zealand First MP Barbara Stewart wants to
know why all Telecom customers are to pay higher fees from
next month to meet the cost of the Telecommunications
Commissioner.
Mrs Stewart said a survey had been carried out to judge consumer response to a number of issues about telecommunications including extra charges to pay for the commissioner and other proposed new services.
“Consumers are already paying enough for telecommunications and an increase would be unwarranted, particularly for senior citizens and people on fixed incomes” said Mrs Stewart.
“Telecom is making sufficient profit now and could easily absorb some extra costs in order to provide additional services,” she said.
