Green MP Mike Ward and Green Party supporters will tomorrow [Wednesday November 6] plant white flags in Parliament's grounds to form a peace sign, marking the YWCA's "Week Without Violence".
Mr Ward said the Green-hosted flag-planting symbolised the fact New Zealanders were in fact a peaceful people.
"The 'Week Without Violence' is an opportunity for all New Zealanders to show our gentler, more cooperative side," he said.
Green and YWCA members and supporters will gather in Parliament's grounds from about 12 noon tomorrow, with the flag-planting ceremony planned for 12.30pm. Mr Ward will also address the gathering just after 12.30pm.
The YWCA Week Without Violence, Nga Waha Atete i te Kururkuru, runs from 5-11 November 2002; with the YWCA, schools, government departments and community organisations running activities all week conveying the non-violence message.
