Progressives welcome Step Up scholarships
Progressive deputy leader Hon Matt Robson MP welcomed today’s launch of the new Step Up scholarships in health education
“The scholarships are another example of successful coalition governments getting good things done for people, as New Zealand needs an educated workforce to be a rich society. I encourage young people to find out about Step Up and get an application in before December 15,” said Matt Robson.
He welcomed the bonding requirement. Once the student has successfully completed their qualification, they will stay in New Zealand for some years, working in their chosen field.
However, graduates will be able to leave for short periods, such as holidays for up to 4 weeks, and to travel 1 full year overseas for work experience or the like. If a graduate chooses not to fulfil the bond obligation they will have to repay most of the Step Up scholarship.
“The intention of the bonded time is that graduates will be working in New Zealand, using their newly acquired skills to contribute to our economy and society,” said Matt Robson.
