PM Indulges In Wide Ranging Discussion
The Prime Minister's post cabinet-press conference erupted into fireworks this afternoon and that was ten minutes before the PM had even arrived. Various sections of the media were in a right old lather over a press secretary fondling and lowering their beloved microphones.
However once the formerly proudly erect microphones had been emasculated - so to speak - the rest of the press conference was a very amiable and wide-ranging affair. The topic of Fiji was once again briefly on the media's lips till the PM pointed out that any decisions on further sanctions would have to wait till mid-week.
Also discussed was a recent Police report regarding the quality of recent Police recruits and whether or not the PM is backing Rusell Fairbrother to in a local Labour Party selection dispute.
The PM also took the opportunity to briefly comment on the Americas Cup challenge which she abandoned at 1am. Fortunately armchair yachting enthusiast and Sports Minister Trevor Mallard was more of a stayer and backed the boat till the happy finale in last night's race at 5am. The PM was less keen to get involved in discussions about the man that once epitomised the Americas Cup – at least in NZ - Sir Michael Fay and his recent dealings with the Securities Commission regarding insider-trading accusations.
