Hawke's Bay rally about democracy - EPMU
The Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union will be running a mass member rally in Hawkes Bay tomorrow to brief members on the union's 2008 campaign plans.
The meeting will be held tomorrow morning and follows today's briefing of members at Heinz Watties - one of the EPMU's largest single East Coast sites.
EPMU National Secretary Andrew Little says mass meetings are about members getting together to share ideas and feedback with their union.
"The union movement is the largest democratic organisation in New Zealand and the EPMU is the largest private sector union in the movement and that means we need to keep our members informed of what we're doing and give them a chance to have their say. In this way mass meetings are one of our most vital democratic tools.
"These meetings are also about members from dozens of different worksites getting together, meeting with fellow unionists from across their region and getting a tangible sense of our strength and solidarity as a collective whole. That's an important message in itself given the role of collective action in protecting and building on the work rights of all working New Zealanders."
The meeting will be at the Hastings Sports Centre in Railway Road at 10:30am - public and media are welcome to attend.
