Dunne: TV3’s news credibility in tatters
UnitedFuture leader Peter Dunne says TV3’s much-touted claim to be ‘leading news journalists’ is now in complete tatters, following the weekend’s revelations about the infamous ‘medals’ interview.
“What we have here is a case of a news organisation putting to air an interview which featured an actor’s voice and an actor’s presence – in other words, it was a complete fabrication, the very antithesis of what news and current affairs is supposed to be about.
“Now I hear the head of TV3, Brent Impey, defending John Campbell and the head of news Mark Jennings for their part in this deliberate fraud on the public.
“Even Mr Campbell has admitted TV3 ‘stuffed up’ and ‘shat in its own nest’. The only honourable thing for these people to do is resign or, failing that, Mr Impey should sack them.
“From now on, whenever the viewing public see an ad for TV3 and leading news journalism, they’ll add ‘Yeah right!’ “ said Mr Dunne.
