UF delivers more summer hours

UnitedFuture leader Peter Dunne is thrilled that New Zealanders have been able to enjoy this year’s ‘Indian summer’ due to the extension of daylight saving.

“Daylight saving officially ends this Sunday, 6 April, a full three weeks later than in previous years,” said Mr Dunne.

“When Nelson City Councillor Mark Holmes and I ran the petition to extend daylight saving last year we received overwhelming support, illustrated by the nearly 45 000 people that signed up.

“Seeing people out enjoying the sunny evenings, swimming at the beach after work, kicking a ball around with their kids; are a great justification for our effort to convince the Government to change the regulation last year.

“It was always such a pity when daylight saving finished mid-March, the weather was still good, and yet working Kiwis were no longer able to get out and enjoy it.

“It is also very gratifying to see results of various recent polls which show that up to 80% of people support the change.

“I hope the extended period of daylight saving has allowed people more time to participate in this country’s diverse range of sporting and recreational activities,” said Mr Dunne.
