Dunne calls on men to end all violence against women

UnitedFuture leader and Ohariu MP Peter Dunne today called on the men of New Zealand to make sure International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women becomes unnecessary in New Zealand.

“The fact that there needs to be such a day at all tells us, as men, that too many women in this country suffer at the hands of New Zealand men,” Mr Dunne said.

“It’s a problem that’s not going away and that men need to take responsibility for and need to do something about.

“There is an ongoing and shameful litany of violence against women, and it’s simply totally unacceptable,” Mr Dunne said.

“I do urge all men – be they husbands, partners, fathers or brothers – to actually stand firmly against any and all violence.

“It is simply unacceptable – and particularly against women and children.

“It must stop. It’s not ok,” Mr Dunne said.
